“ka hana nova no ka hoʻihoʻi nele”

If you are looking for a book that illustrates the lives ancient Hawaiians from the Hawaiian perspective (and not from the Hollywood perspective) then this book is for you. It is an excellent resource for scholar and layman alike.
OK I’m not super picky but I do get bored easily of eating the same dang thang for lunch every day.  My work place announced that they were going to offer a larger rotation of food trucks and I was game.  So far I haven’t been super impressed.  They are all run by Moody’s so well they all seem to have the same dang thangs to offer.  Some variation but not enough to excite me too much.
We are all Hawaiian, and not only are we all kānaka maoli, but we are fortunate enough to have benefited from the legacy of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop and from all that Kamehameha has to offer. While some of us have chosen to embrace our culture more than others, it is all of our kuleana, our responsibility, as Pauahi-embraced native Hawaiians, to give back to the generations that follow us.

Captains and crewmembers of Makaliʻi often are asked to visit schools and programs across the state to share their knowldege and lifestyles of voyaging. The main focus for many school visits is the vision of the organization: “He waʻa he moku he moku he waʻa” Our canoe is our island and our island is our canoe. School visits include presentations by captains and crewmembers and hands on activities from learning mele and ʻaihaʻa from the canoe to making model canoes.

RARE Shirt! I’ve never seen another one for sale! If I had to guess this probably came out around 2006 for Disneyland’s 50th Anniversary. 31″ long from the shoulder seam down. 22″ across the chest armhole to armhole.
The food was good, but nothing to write home about—I got the macadamia nut chicken salad stuffed papaya with side salad (had a nice lilikoi vinaigrette, but the salad was meh), and my fiancée got the …bbq pork plate. The service was really slow, despite the restaurant being maybe half full. The desserts were tasty, though! See More

For beginners, things start off with an outrigger canoe orientation and paddling mini-workshop. Our goal is to make each paddling session fun and safe for paddlers of all levels of experience, newcomers included. Hana Hou affords everyone the opportunity to learn and to improve as an outrigger canoe paddler – but we never place pressure on anyone. That’s just not our way in the Hana Hou Outrigger Canoe Club. Here, we stress safety, fun, and mutual respect.

When we speak in contemporary terms of rebuilding the nation as fundamental to a Hawaiian future, I cannot think of anything more important than for us to pull out all the stops to accurately reconstruct our past: to know with a high degree of certainty where we’ve been, to validate who we really are as a people, to be able to define our cultural past in ways that can guide us to our cultural future.
Hakihaki/Haki Kino is a term used in hula to limber the body. The purpose of this was to make the dancer more fluid, graceful and flexible through hakihaki.  In this workshop we will learn the historical and contemporary place hakihaki has within the hālau. Participants will also learn other facets of our Hawaiian Healing Arts that will be geared towards the hula.
