The Hawaiian Islands are home to countless incredible restaurants, many of which are found in the islands’ capital city and other large towns. But that doesn’t mean that the lesser-known restaurants found way out in the Hawaiian countryside are any less delicious. In fact, there’s one little eatery found off the beaten path that might just serve the best food you’ve tried in ages. Located in the southernmost town in the United States
Had dinner there last night and everything was DELICIOUS! The ahi avocado poki was soooooo yummy and the spicy garlic shrimp plate was AMAZING! I don’t know why it took me 2 yrs to find this gem. I’m …from Guam so it made me really miss our dishes that are similar. Will definitely be going back often, since this is our last year here on Okinawa. See More
To all of you who love our Hawai’i, greetings of aloha. Here we are sailing on two esteemed double-hulled canoes from the island of Oʻahu (referred to as “Oʻahu child of Lua”) – Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia. We have left the Kanilehua rains of verdant Hawaiʻi island headed Rangiroa in the Tuamotu islands, and from there we will forge ahead to Papeʻete in Tahiti, the same place where Hōkūleʻa first made landfall back in 1976.
“I have always respected Mahealani Uchiyama’s tenacity, dedication, devotion, and talent for encompassing other cultures and dances. In my opinion, she has always been diligent in her research of all cultural dance/art/costuming, which require cultural authenticity and originality. I am proud to call such an outstanding and upstanding individual my associate and friend.”
The job force varied greatly. Each skilled occupation was informed by specific natural environments. For example, a lawaiʻa (fisher person) knew all the details of their fishing grounds. They knew the tides, the winds, the moon, and all the elements of the ocean. Lawaiʻa knew the distinct characteristics of all the sea creatures. Lawaiʻa did not simply throw lines in the ocean and try to catch fish. They went directly to the fishes’ feeding grounds to harvest.
Paddling is not mandatory for membership in Hana Hou. If you prefer, just come for the fun, friendship, and Hawaiian music. Here, we don’t judge you by the size of your biceps or the length of your paddling experience – to us, the best club members are the ones having the most fun.

Stumbled across this place after checking out the fabled Green Sand Beach. It was a mid afternoon lunch so it wasn’t crowded during our lunch. I’d been dying to try the Hawaiian meal called the Loco Moco. I decided this was my opportunity and asked…More
Hana Hou To Go is one of these variations.  It’s a Hawaiian style food truck.  I had the Kalua Pork and cabbage bowl and it was the right kind of moist and it was tasty.  But it took a lonnnnng time to make my food which is kinda a deal breaker when you only have 30 minutes for lunch.  I’ll give them a break since they just started at my base and maybe need to work some kinks out.  Also kudos for offering some kind of different food options such as baked salmon.
Disappointed!! Watched first 30 minutes of first episode. So far Kono’s replacement can’t act and that solo scene where she tries and beat up the arsonist? Looked stupid. Seems all they cared about was getting a hot body to replace Kono….. that I guess shows how much respect they had for Grace P. Just KNOCKED IT TO ONE STAR. Kept watching and what did they do? The new Kono poured a bucket of water over her head so her breasts became prominent!!! What garbage! How high schoolish..$2.99 a show? No more.

excellent resource. anthropological, sociological, definitions and actions and ways of thinking, of Hawai’ian people before and since contact with Europeans and others. my mother, my extended family, are not as embedded in traditional culture in some ways, I am not kamaiina (local island born and raised) but do recognize this. perhaps this is the way of all local cultures, and I only romanticize this. my heritage is important to me…
