The space age look was defined by boxy shapes, thigh length hemlines and bold accessories. Synthetic material was also popular with space age fashion designers. After the Second World War, fabrics like nylon, corfam, orlon, terylene, lurex and spandex were promoted as cheap, easy to dry, and wrinkle-free. The synthetic fabrics of the 1960s allowed space age fashion designers to design garments with bold shapes and a plastic texture.[9] Non-cloth material, such as polyester and PVC, became popular in clothing and accessories as well. For daytime outerwear, short plastic raincoats, colourful swing coats and dyed fake-furs were popular for women. In 1966, the Nehru jacket arrived on the fashion scene, and was worn by both sexes. Suits were very diverse in color but were, for the first time ever, fitted and very slim. Waistlines for women were left unmarked and hemlines were getting shorter and shorter.

Famous American brands and designers include Vera Wang, Bill Blass, Joseph Abboud, Calvin Klein, Bob Mackie, Anna Sui, Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Tommy Hilfiger, Geoffrey Beene, Oleg Cassini, Perry Ellis, Kenneth Cole, James Galanos, Todd Oldham, Donna Karan, Liz Claiborne, and Nolan Miller.

The trench coat is so last year! This winter, beat the harsh winter cold with the all new fashion trends for women, i.e. the cape. It closely resembles a poncho, and is flexible enough to beat all the other forms of winter dressing. It can be worn with either sides up or down, and will still go well with any other winter piece, from above-the-knee boots to the pyjama style. These are best when the neutral colours are chosen. The poncho itself offers a layered appearance. Do not miss this winter trend.

Not long ago, a customer brought Ms. Scott a Marc Jacobs dress, hoping to recoup some of the $400 she had spent for it. “I told her the most I could ask for it was $50,” she said. “That’s what people are willing to pay for a resale item. She was expecting more.”

I don’t believe children’s fashion is an important part of life. Of all the things we want our kids to enjoy, looking cool shouldn’t be one of them. Parents can be vain and we often see our children as a reflection of ourselves — from behavior to grades to fashion, the moms and dads at the park are silently judging each other based on their kids. But there is a lesson we should have learned before becoming parents: “Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”
