Burgeoning industries in Miami, Chicago, Dallas, and especially San Francisco have developed as well. For London-based designer Roksanda Ilincic, a favourite of Samantha Cameron, the decision to launch Blossom in 2012 was less about building brand loyalty than answering her customers’ needs – and her own, since the birth of her daughter in 2011 changed her perspective. “I wanted to move into an area that fit with my and my friends’ lifestyle,” says Ilincic, whose prices start at £135 and who caters for two- to eight-year-olds. Creating an army of “mini-mes” was not her prime intention. “Blossom complements my ready-to-wear collection because it evolves from the same mood and inspiration. My sole aim is to design beautiful, well-made, comfortable clothing for all ages. It’s up to my customers how they fit that into their lifestyle.” And while some of the fancier “occasionwear” is dryclean only, Ilincic tries to keep things low maintenance. “Practicality is a major consideration – not least because I have the experience of motherhood. Simple, everyday items are easily handwashed.”

As teen culture became stronger, the term “Youthquake” came to mean the power of young people. This was unprecedented before the 1960s. Before World War II, teenagers dressed and acted like their parents. Many settled down and began raising families when they were young, normally right after high school. They were often expected to work and assist their families financially. Therefore, youth culture begins to develop only after World War II, when the advancement of many technologies and stricter child labor laws became mainstream. Teenagers during this period more time to enjoy their youth. They had a freedom to create their own culture separate from their parents. Teens soon began establishing their own identities and communities, with their own views and ideas, and breaking away from their parents traditions. The fabulous “little girl” look was introduced to USA—styling with Bobbie Brooks, bows, patterned knee socks and mini skirts. The miniskirt and the “little girl” look that accompanied it reflect a revolutionary shift in the way people dress. Instead of younger generations dressing like adults, they became inspired by childlike dress.

Plus size fashion in the 1940s was not something overlooked like it had been in previous decades. Most women were not the ideal curvy hour glass shape. As women matured, bodies matured, too, and women found themselves shopping for clothing with a different eye on fashion.
When Ms. Zwanziger first introduced her to the store, Ms. Novick said, “They almost had to sedate me.” A pair of Celine pumps cost her $200 — a price that, she noted with amazement, “sounds like Chinatown in New York.”
The idea of unisex dressing originated in the 1960s when designers such as Pierre Cardin and Rudi Gernreich created garments, such as stretch jersey tunics or leggings, meant to be worn by both males and females. The impact of unisex expands more broadly to encompass various themes in fashion including androgyny, mass-market retail, and conceptual clothing. The fashion trends of the 1970s, such as sheepskin jackets, flight jackets, duffel coats, and unstructured clothing influenced men to attend social gatherings without a tuxedo jacket and to accessorize in new ways. Some men’s styles blended the sensuality and expressiveness despite the conservative trend, the growing gay-rights movement and an emphasis on youth allowed for a new freedom to experiment with style, fabrics such as wool crepe, which had previously been associated with women’s attire was used by designers when creating male clothing.
There has been great debate about politics’ place in Fashion and traditionally, the Fashion Industry has maintained a rather apolitical stance. Considering the U.S.’s political climate in the surrounding months of the 2016 presidential election, during 2017 Fashion weeks in London, Milan, New York, Paris and São Paulo amongst others, many designers took the opportunity to take political stances leveraging their platforms and influence to reach the masses.

Oh—and let’s not forget the frames. After the Great Lensless Glasses Freakout of 2012, the NBA, no slouch in the marketing department, signed a deal with Westbrook’s eyewear startup, Westbrook Frames, to license a line of high-end, team-branded frames. They cost $145 each, and you can wear them with or without lenses.
If there is one hard-and-fast fashion rule that has applied to all first ladies of the modern era, it is to buy and wear American-made (or at least American-designed) clothing, even on the campaign trail. Jackie Kennedy’s official designer, Oleg Cassini, was a U.S. Army veteran. Nancy Reagan wore James Galanos, Bill Blass, Adolfo and Geoffrey Beene, often in patriotic “Reagan Red.” Barbara Laura Bush lived in clothes by Dominican-American Oscar de la Renta and Arnold Scaasi, a Canadian-born New Yorker. Hillary Clinton’s pantsuits were by Ralph Lauren. Michelle Obama put her own spin on patriotic dressing, supporting young Seventh Avenue designers—often designers of color—rather than established industry stalwarts. (Another one of her innovations was mixing designer pieces with inexpensive basics from J. Crew and Gap—clothes any American woman could afford.)

The winners were a Burberry trench and kilt (“authentic”), the Stella knit tunic (“I would actually spend the money for this,” Ms. Ferrara said) and, despite the cost and some sewing faults, the Lanvin pieces. “It’s couture,” Mr. Rosen said.

It helped that GQ and L’Uomo Vogue started putting players such as James on their covers. “They really put athletes on a pedestal,” Kalenderian says. “In the ’60s, the image of the perfect man was found at the movies. The archetypes of style were actors like Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, and Robert Redford. Now young men look to social media, to Tumblr and Instagram, where they see athletes like Russell Westbrook.”

Typically, U.A.L. gets only a few of each garment, so if it’s not your size, you’re out of luck. And you have to be willing to hunt the racks and keep coming back. Some days it’s a gold mine, other times the store feels picked over.
Fashion public relations involves being in touch with a company’s audiences and creating strong relationships with them, reaching out to media and initiating messages that project positive images of the company. Social media plays an important role in modern-day fashion public relations; enabling practitioners to reach a wide range of consumers through various platforms.
Out of personal misfortune came a new business idea: They would become liquidators, buying off-price merchandise from other stressed store owners. While Melody ran the first U.A.L. store, Bill went to New York on buying trips and networked with designers and retailers.
Currently the fashion industry relies more on mass market sales. The mass market caters for a wide range of customers, producing ready-to-wear garments using trends set by the famous names in fashion. They often wait around a season to make sure a style is going to catch on before producing their own versions of the original look. To save money and time, they use cheaper fabrics and simpler production techniques which can easily be done by machine. The end product can therefore be sold much more cheaply.

During the mid and late 60s, womens hair styles became very big and used a large quantity of hair spray, as parodied in the musical Hairspray. The most important change in hairstyles at this time was that men and women wore androgynous styles that resembled each other. In the UK, it was the new fashion for mod women to cut their hair short and close to their heads. Meanwhile, hippie girls favored long, straight natural hair, kept in place with a bandana.
