Holding a $375 silk-print girl’s dress by Gucci, Andrew Rosen, the respected founder of Theory and a catalyst behind several other brands, said, “This is talking to the 1 percent, or the less than 1 percent, of the population.” He added, referring to luxury makers with children’s lines: “I would believe that none of these guys are doing it to make money. It’s all about being more relevant. You want to keep the customers engaged in your brand.”
Christopher Kane has featured embellished crocs for a few seasons. However, Balenciaga has brought the ‘ugly-comfort-chic’ footwear to a new level, literally. For SS18, Demna Gvasalia embellished the giant platform rubber shoes with a variety of toy-like pins including a French bull dogs, rosettes, butterflies, making the it-cult item of the season. You can get the look for less by buying, well, actual crocs.
Shoppers have shaken off their recession-era caution: They’re ponying up for big-ticket appliances, taking a record number of summer airline trips and splurging on novelty items such as drones. Strong consumer spending is a bright spot in a recovering U.S. economy.

Abe had learned a lot from studying this guy’s look and the looks of the other dandies—for that was what they were, unpaid, unsponsored, there only to see and be seen and hoist their colors on the humid afternoon air—who showed up for the shows. Every night he had come home and gone through his suitcase, reviewing the elements of the wardrobe he’d brought with him (with a few fresh additions; it was the week of the soldes), combining and re-combining them, laying out his little self-portrait on the floor. When he woke up in the morning he would have changed his mind about something, or a sudden inspiration would strike. The look he had chosen for the Off-White preview had been tested and revised, in his mind and on his body, and it said whatever it was about himself that he had managed, at this early and still inarticulate moment in the history of his soul, to say. It would bear up to scrutiny. It had been designed to bear up to scrutiny. Indeed it had been designed to invite scrutiny, not of the look itself but of the person inside it. His clothes were not on the outside of his body; they were—for now—the outside of his body. They were the visible form taken by the way he chose to define himself. None of the gawky young models, standing around flat-footed and hunch-shouldered with their assigned coats and jackets and baggy shorts hanging off them like drop cloths thrown over a dining room set, could say that. Even Virgil Abloh, in his black sweats and black T-shirt, seemed to be wearing Off-White.
As I drove across the I-40 bridge into Memphis, I was reassured: chances were slim that a massive earthquake would wrest the road from its supports, and plunge me more than a hundred feet into the murky Mississippi. Thanks to a recently completed $260 million seismic retrofit, the bridge—a chokepoint for traffic in the central U.S.—is now fortified. It’s also decked out with strong-motion accelerometers and bookended by borehole seismometers to record convulsions in the earth.

That was before J. Crew whiffed with the Tilly sweater, a wool top with a shrunken, cropped fit that sold so poorly, Drexler called it “a big mistake.” The sweater has become a notorious symbol for a J. Crew’s wider problems.
In reaction to this situation, a campaign group Pinkstinks was formed in the UK in 2008[8] to raise awareness of what they claim is damage caused by gender stereotyping of children.[9] Further, clothing companies have started to sell clothes that are unisex or gender-neutral, such as Swedish companies Polarn O. Pyret,[10] while others have been founded specifically to offer such items, such as Tootsa MacGinty.[11][12]
“It’s not a new phenomenon for women to want their kids to look well turned-out,” agrees Estelle Lee, editor in chief of parenting magazine Smallish. “But the fashion industry has adapted to make children a prime area for growth as our attitudes adapt and society becomes more child-centric. Whether it’s clothes, parties, after-school activities or education, it’s vital for parents to invest in their kids. Lives are busy, and there’s an expectation of return on investment with our children.”
Picture yourself with a trash bag of old clothes you’ve just cleaned out of your closet. You think you could get some money out of them, so you take them to a consignment or thrift store, or sell them via one of the new online equivalents, like ThredUp. But they’ll probably reject most of your old clothes, even the ones you paid dearly for, because of small flaws or no longer being in season. With fast fashion speeding up trends and shortening seasons, your clothing is quite likely dated if it’s more than a year old. Many secondhand stores will reject items from fast-fashion chains like Forever 21, H&M, Zara and Topshop. The inexpensive clothing is poor quality, with low resale value, and there’s just too much of it.
Soon, Anthropologie was admitting that it had struggled to merchandize for its customers’ lifestyle: The bastion of bohemian-chic suffered last year when it didn’t offer enough casual dresses, apparently failing to understand that shoppers’ calendars were heavier on weekend barbecues than cocktail soirees. It also acknowledged that it didn’t deliver some of the silhouettes and fabrics women were looking for.

In general, the Morris children seem to adhere to traditional children’s attire of the time.  However, it seems as though Elliston Jr’s hair was cut short at around three years old while Marriott Jr.’s hair was long until he was about five years old.   As Paoletti points out, the exact timing of a boy’s switch from skirts to trousers and his haircut was ultimately up to his mother.  Perhaps Marriott Jr.’s longer hair reflected a desire on the part of his mother Jane to maintain his childhood innocence just a little bit longer.

Although tailors and dressmakers were no doubt responsible for many innovations, and the textile industry certainly led many trends, the history of fashion design is normally understood to date from 1858 when the English-born Charles Frederick Worth opened the first true haute couture house in Paris. The Haute house was the name established by government for the fashion houses that met the standards of industry. These fashion houses have to adhere to standards such as keeping at least twenty employees engaged in making the clothes, showing two collections per year at fashion shows, and presenting a certain number of patterns to costumers.[19] Since then, the idea of the fashion designer as a celebrity in his or her own right has become increasingly dominant.[20]

According to Candice Fragis, buying & merchandising director at Farfetch, which launched its childrenswear division in March, Burberry, Moncler and Dolce & Gabbana are amongst the top-selling labels in both women’s and children’s. “We’ve seen that kidswear has been an add-on to a lot of the purchasing that’s done by both men and women,” she says. “What we see trending is less about practicality and more about replicas of what is being sold for adults — the little Moncler jackets, the D&G swimsuits.”
Consumers all have different needs and demands that have to be suited. A person’s needs change frequently, which is why fashion trends even exist. An important factor to take into consideration when thinking of consumers’ needs is the key demographics of the customer. Gender, age, income, and even profession can help a company better understand the needs of their customers.[43]
