“should fashion shows be banned”

But what everyone agrees on is that Africans buy cast-off clothing from the U.S. because they see it as high quality and good value. This might not be true much longer. The 2005 Oxfam report found that in Kenya up to a quarter of clothing in imported secondhand bales was unsalable due to poor quality. Since then, fast fashion’s market share has expanded, even as it has become synonymous with “falls apart after two wears” for Western consumers. It’s possible that Africans might eventually recognize that the secondhand fashion is just cheap, old imported clothing from Asia that made a quick pit stop in the U.K. and U.S. And like Americans, they might decide to just buy it new.
I’ll never forget the day I tried to put a plaid shirt with plaid shorts on my son. I thought it was fine, but it seems I was very, very, wrong. Every woman I’ve ever known thought I had recently suffered a head injury, and even a couple of my guy friends thought I was somewhat visually impaired. Clearly my son’s chances at the Supreme Court were diminishing.
Description These frilly little girl dresses from the year 1925 are all of a similar shape but represent a different assortment of details. Some have embroidery while others feature cute neck ties and contrasting details like pockets. Some show off a floral pattern and another displays polka dots.
Often consumers need to be told what they want. Fashion companies have to do their research to ensure they know their customers’ needs before developing solutions. Steve Jobs said, “You’ve got to start with the customer experience and work backwards to the technology. You cannot start with the technology and try to figure out where you are going to sell it”.[44]
“With kids it’s all about comfort,” concurs Roksanda Ilincic. “You can’t have a fabric that is itchy or a dress with a lining that isn’t nice enough, it just doesn’t work to mix natural fabrics with man made fabrics,” she says.
Comfortable and dependable, Niagara leads the PANTONE Fashion Color Report as the most prevalent color for spring 2017. Niagara is a classic denim-like blue that speaks to our desire for ease and relaxation.
These brands have misread their customers in other ways, too. Ann Taylor has been slow to adapt to loosened office dress codes and a moment when women want versatile pieces that go from work to weekend. Banana Republic faltered when it tried to push a trendier vibe on its audience of cubicle warriors and soccer moms. In February, Peck — the chief executive of Gap, Banana Republic’s parent company — said, “We took Banana to a place where we were trying to lead on fashion and trend, and she does not want Banana to be that.” Executives are working on a return to the classics, but sagging sales show that it hasn’t resonated yet with customers.
In recent years, Marchesa’s red-carpet magic has dimmed and its celebrity placements have lost a bit of their star power, yet the label’s princess-y dresses still found eager takers. In 2017, Octavia Spencer, who has appeared in movies produced by Mr. Weinstein, wore a custom Marchesa gown to the Academy Awards, when she was nominated for her role in “Hidden Figures.”

Who would have known back in 2010 when One Direction was being mentored by Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole that Zayn Malik would become a genuine global superstar. But love him or hate him few could deny that Malik was born to the role and that few of his peers look the part with such aplomb. He can certainly claim to be one of the best-dressed ex-boy band members in history. Sartorially he has never been afraid to push boundaries while knowing precisely which basics suit him, too. Gone is the slogan T-shirt skateboard grunge of his younger days. Not that he is ever afraid to experiment – from shaving his hair off or dying it blond, or rocking a pyjama suit – while always keeping true to the tried and tested favourites such as black jeans, leather jackets and high-tops, as well as his favourite double-breasted jackets to give him that classic gym-honed V-shape. And with fame comes advantages and he is equally at home in Louis Vuitton or Valentino as he is in street brands – whether he is on the red carpet or papped out shopping with supermodel girlfriend Gigi Hadid. Truly, he is the very model of the modern superstar. Robert Johnston, Fashion at GQ
…because we’re loving that the jogger pants trend has grown legs for the fourth year in a row. What started out as slim fitting sweatpants has now transitioned into jeans, n and formal pants. Joggers are perfect when you’re trying to show off some new kicks or boots and because they’re fitted they […]
Fast fashion is forcing charities to process larger amounts of garments in less time to get the same amount of revenue—like an even more down-market fast-fashion retailer. “We need to go through more and more donations to find those great pieces, which can make it more costly to find those pieces and get them to customers,” says David Raper, senior vice president of business enterprises at Housing Works. Goodwill’s strategy is much the same, says Meyer: “If I can get more fresh product more quickly on the floor, I can extract more value.”
“It’s not a new phenomenon for women to want their kids to look well turned-out,” agrees Estelle Lee, editor in chief of parenting magazine Smallish. “But the fashion industry has adapted to make children a prime area for growth as our attitudes adapt and society becomes more child-centric. Whether it’s clothes, parties, after-school activities or education, it’s vital for parents to invest in their kids. Lives are busy, and there’s an expectation of return on investment with our children.”
“Imran has a natural and unique sense of style, which is rare these days. He throws together fabric and texture really well, in an way that only he can carry off. The most amazing thing about Imran is that he can look equally as chic and stylish in a Bespoke three-piece suit with a shirt tie and pocket sq. He’s a leader and pioneer in individuality.” Luke Sweeney, co-founder, Thom Sweeney

In a statement on Tuesday, Mr. Weinstein’s spokeswoman, Sallie Hofmeister, said: “Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein. Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances.”
